Key analysis: Sealing method of bearing grease

Edit:Shandong Yunhua Bearing Co., Ltd. Time:2023-06-12

In order to provide the operating speed of bearings during operation, lubricating grease or oil is usually used to lubricate the bearings. When we use grease lubrication, do we use a method to seal the lubricant? According to the use of different types of bearings, the sealing method of bearing grease may also vary. Based on the understanding of bearing maintenance knowledge, the following will focus on analyzing the sealing method of bearing grease.

Precautions for sealing bearing grease: Different methods of sealing grease can cause unstable temperature rise during initial running-in operation, abnormal temperature rise, long initial running-in time, and even sintering. Therefore, it is necessary to use an appropriate amount of grease and the correct sealing method according to the usage conditions.

1. Confirmation before sealing

Confirm that there is no residue left inside the bearing. It is recommended to use bearings for high-speed spindles in the order of first washing, then degreasing, and then sealing in grease. For other usage conditions, it is also recommended to remove the rust resistant oil that adheres to the inside of the bearing.

2. Sealing of grease

To seal in an appropriate amount of grease, it is recommended to use a sealer. Sealing device, using a gauge with sealing reading.

3. Oil sealing amount

Recommended sealing amount for precision bearings:

Angular contact ball bearings for high-speed spindles -15% (-2%~+2%) of the space volume

Cylindrical roller bearings for high-speed spindles -10% (-2%~+2%) of the space volume

Ball bearings for motors -20% to 30% of the space volume.

Method of sealing bearing grease:

1. Oil sealing method for ball bearings

(1) Seal evenly between the steel balls. If the guide of the cage is a phenol resin cage guided by the outer ring, it is recommended to apply grease thinly on the guide surface of the cage.

(2) Rotate the bearing by hand to evenly seal the grease onto the raceway surface, the inner diameter of the cage, between the steel balls, and the guide surface, filling the internal space with grease

2. Oil sealing method for cylindrical roller bearings

(1) Apply 80% of the sealed amount of grease evenly on the rolling surface. At this point, it is recommended not to have too much grease on the inner diameter of the cage. The grease on the inner side of the cage is difficult to flow during the initial running in stage, which increases the temperature rise and prolongs the running in time.

(2) Apply the grease on the rolling surface of the roller to the end face of the roller, the cage, the contact area with the roller, and the inlet of the pocket, so that the grease is evenly distributed throughout the bearing.

(3) Apply 20% of the sealed amount of grease evenly and thinly on the outer race surface of the bearing housing.
